For Immediate Release
Thursday August 19th 2010
Dundas : A committee has been formed to create a Legacy Project for the J L Grightmire Arena. The project will include the following ambitious plans for the Arena.
- A second floor lounge above the concession area ( including elevator )
- New Sound system
- Updated lighting system
- Exterior Sign ( including a message board )
- Dundas Sports Wall of Fame
The committee has met several times over the past several weeks and feels this community victory should leave a lasting impression on the Arena and community. The cost of the project will be almost $600,000.00, and will utilize the $100,000 won in the 2010 competition as the base for this project. As well, the committee has worked out an arrangement with Medgar Lighting Group to install new lighting in the Arena with minimal cost to the City of Hamilton, thus providing almost another $ 71,000.00 toward the project. The committee will be approaching all three levels of Government to help top up the balance of the funding. There will also be a local fundraising initiative, which include approaching local service Clubs for support.
The committee will consist of Don Robertson and Councillor Russ Powers as co-chairs along with Andrew Swan (Pres. DMHA ) Steve Aglor Dundas Blues, Peter Curtis Dundas Real McCoy’s, as well as Hockeyville’s Leslie Watson and Barry Forth.
“The physical additions to the building speak for themselves, but the exciting part of the project that will leave a legacy in our community will be the Sports Wall of fame that will honor past sports hero’s and contributors to local sports“, stated Co-Chair Don Robertson. “The thought is an independent committee will be set up from the various sport stakeholders in the community to carry this part of the project forward”, Robertson continued.
There will be more detail available at www.dundashockeyville.ca/legacyproject regarding Fundraising and online donations.
A successful celebrity Golf tournament has already been held at Copetown Woods and the next major fundraiser will be an Alumni Hockey game with The Dundas Blues and Real McCoy’s taking part on Monday September 27th @ 7:30.
